It's very common to feel tired during pregnancy. Lean beef will give you plenty of iron, making sure your energy levels are up, and supporting the constant demand from your little one. 


Dark Leafy Greens


Calcium is one of the most important nutrients to eat to support your baby's bone development. That makes dark leafy greens an essential food to eat when pregnant because of the vast amounts of calcium, and no saturated fat (unlike dairy products).


A Variety of Delicious Fruit


During pregnancy, your body will demand a large amount of vitamins (especially vitamin C) and minerals for a healthy fetus development. While supplements may be a good idea, eating fruits and vegetables will give you the these vitamins and antioxidants in their natural state, which is always better. It's important to eat different colors of fruit to get the full spectrum of nutrients.

While it's important to know what to eat during pregnancy, it's equally important to know what foods not to eat while pregnant. You should try to avoid these foods at all cost to minimize pregnancy complications. 


Tuna


Mercury is still a concern in tuna. So even though tuna contain healthy protein and fat, it's best to include this in the 'what not to eat while pregnant' category. 


Packaged Deli Meats and Hot Dogs


These foods may contain Listeria monocytogenes, a bacteria that may result in a miscarriage. It has also been linked to still birth and other health problems. Defiantly a food you don't want to eat while pregnant. You should also be careful about smoked fish (like smoked salmon) as they may also contain this bacteria.

 

Since any bacteria will be killed in a cooking process, you may eat these foods when heated, but make sure they are steaming hot before you eat them.

 

Raw Meat or Raw Vegetable Sprouts

 

Raw meat can contain bacteria and it's best not to consume it while pregnant. This includes sushi.

 

Raw vegetable sprouts, according to the FDA, should not to consumed raw even by those who are not pregnant. So these are foods not to eat when pregnant.
